Accessibility Statement

1. Our Commitment

ToolSite News ("the Site") is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards. We strive to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, as recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

2. Measures to Support Accessibility

We take the following measures to ensure accessibility of the Site:

• We use semantic HTML elements (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <article>, <footer>) to provide meaningful document structure for screen readers and assistive technologies.
• We include descriptive alt text for all images, using article titles rather than generic labels.
• We use proper heading hierarchy (<h1> for page titles, <h2> for section headings) to facilitate navigation for screen reader users.
• We maintain sufficient color contrast ratios between text and background colors to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
• We use relative font sizing (rems) to respect users' browser font size preferences.
• We provide descriptive page titles that identify the current page and the site name.
• We include ARIA labels on navigation elements (such as breadcrumbs) to provide context for assistive technologies.
• We ensure that all interactive elements (links, buttons) are keyboard-accessible.
• We avoid content that flashes more than three times per second to reduce the risk of seizures.
• We use responsive design principles to ensure the Site is usable on devices of all sizes, from mobile phones to desktop monitors.

3. Conformance Status

The Site is designed to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. We have chosen Level AA as our target.

While we aim for full conformance, we acknowledge the following limitations:

• The Site's content is generated by artificial intelligence, and we cannot guarantee that all AI-generated content will meet accessibility standards. For example, AI-generated images may lack appropriate alt text in some cases (though we provide article-title-based alt text as a default).
• The Site includes third-party content (images from Unsplash and Picsum, the Chart.js library from jsDelivr) over whose accessibility we have no control. These services may not fully conform to WCAG standards.
• Our analytics dashboard page uses Chart.js for data visualization. While Chart.js includes some accessibility features, data visualizations inherently present challenges for screen reader users.
• We do not currently conduct regular automated or manual accessibility audits. Our conformance claims are based on design intent and best-effort implementation.

4. Known Accessibility Issues

We are aware of the following accessibility limitations:

• Keyboard Navigation: While all links are keyboard-accessible, we do not currently implement skip navigation links or other keyboard shortcuts.
• Text Resizing: At very large text sizes (above 200%), some layout elements may not reflow perfectly due to the use of CSS grid and flexbox with fixed-width elements.
• Screen Reader Compatibility: We have not conducted comprehensive testing with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver. While the Site uses semantic HTML, some ARIA attributes and roles may be missing or incomplete.
• Color Reliance: Some information, such as category labels, is conveyed partially through color. We include text labels alongside color indicators, but the color distinctions may not be perceivable to users with color vision deficiencies.
• Video and Audio: The Site does not currently host video or audio content. Should this change, we will ensure that captions, transcripts, and audio descriptions are provided.

We are working to address these issues and welcome feedback on specific accessibility barriers you may encounter.

5. Technical Specifications

Accessibility of the Site relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

• HTML5
• CSS3
• JavaScript (minimal, for non-essential features such as analytics charts)

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

6. Assessment Approach

We assess the accessibility of the Site through the following approaches:

• Design-Phase Review: We consider accessibility during the design of our templates and CSS styles, including color contrast checks and semantic HTML structure.
• Automated Testing: We conduct occasional automated checks using browser-based accessibility auditing tools to identify common issues such as missing alt text, insufficient contrast, and improper heading hierarchy.
• User Feedback: We rely on feedback from users to identify accessibility barriers that automated tools may miss. If you encounter an accessibility issue, please report it to us.

We do not currently conduct formal accessibility audits by third-party accessibility experts. Our assessment is self-evaluation based on best practices and available tools.

7. Legal Compliance

This Accessibility Statement addresses our compliance with:

• The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), specifically Title III, which requires places of public accommodation (including websites) to be accessible to individuals with disabilities.
• Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, which requires federal agencies and their contractors to make electronic and information technology accessible.
• The European Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882), which requires certain products and services, including websites, to meet accessibility requirements in EU member states.
• The UK Equality Act 2010, which requires service providers to make reasonable adjustments to ensure their services are accessible to disabled people.
